I read with interest Robblee and Kelly’s study illustrating their patients' experience with headache. [1] Migraine is the most common primary headache disorder worldwide. While pain (pressure, throbbing) characteristics of the acute headache attack are most disabling for many patients, in others it is effect on the overall quality of life (annoying, debilitating). The study is a timely reminder to clinicians that our patients use varied words to describe the most prominent characteristic of their acute headache attack and their words can help guide us to tailor the management (acute abortive therapy vs. prophylaxis) to the individual headache characteristics of each patient.
